Ice cream / Yogurt

926 Broxton Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024

It was about 11PM and we were pretty bored, so we decided to take a stroll around town for some ice cream sandwiches. When we first arrived at Diddy Riese, there was a huge line of people out the door. It didn’t take long for us to finally get into the store and order something because the service was pretty fast.

Everything on their menu was extremely cheap! You could get anything from one cookie($0.35), 3 cookies($1.00), to a dozen cookies($3.75), and a scoop of ice cream($1.00) or even 2 scoops of ice cream($1.50), if you feel like splurging! They have many different kinds of cookies like the chocolate chip, oatmeal raisen, macadamia nuts & white chocolate, white chocolate, and sugar cookie. Their cookies are made fresh and they use only all natural ingredients. they use dreyers ice cream and they have about 10-12 different flavors.

I got an ice cream sandwich($1.25) and you get to choose two cookies and your ice cream flavor. I didn’t feel like getting anything too crazy, so I stuck with two chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. The cookies were really soft and you could tell they were fresh. The ice cream wasn’t too cold, so it went really well with the soft cookies YUM! The others were more daring than I was and they chose mixtures like mint chocolate chip ice cream in between a sugar cookie and a white chocolate macadamia cookie. So if you ever have late night cravings for something sweet, head to Diddy Riese because they stop selling at 1AM.

I love this place! You can pick the flavor(s) of yogurt, chosen from 8 flavors that change daily, and add any of a super variety of toppings, all self serve for your selective pleasure! I prefer vanilla with toppings so that’s what I did with this 13 oz beauty! The price of the yogurt is based on weight. Mine was 13 oz, which would normally cost over $3 but with a college student discount, it was only $2.53, a nice 25% off! Usually it is about 26 cents an ounce.

Featured here is my creation of butterfinger, oreo, and mixed yogurt chocolate chips atop a mountain of vanilla malt yogurt, which is a WOW COW flavor, meaning fat free, yet it’s still tasty! Below was the [?] berry flavor which was separated from the top by reeses pieces and almonds. Delicious!

Goodness… Jason and I were gung ho on taking advantage of Baskin Robbins’ Summer Solstice promotion. Or at least I was! 31 cents per child’s scoop of ice cream. What could be better? I’m not sure what my first scoop was… I think it had blueberries? I’m not even sure what my second scoop was either… But I do know (well, I’m pretty sure) that my third scoop was America’s Birthday Cake!!! The BEST freakin’ ice cream flavor ever! And by ever, I mean even better than blue bubblegum ice cream sans the bubble gum. Yes, I know… I never thought I’d say that…

I know what you’re thinking… “3 scoops?!?! Really?” Yes, seriously. Each. And then I convinced him to go back in for one more to go =) That’s how good it was!

It’s genius… a smart classic blend of strawberry ice cream with pieces of vanilla cake and swirls of blue frosting… delicious!

Unfortunately, it’s one of those seasonal flavors and I don’t think it’s available anymore, but maybe next summer =)
