For Bridget’s birthday, we walked from her apartment to Cafe Miaafe… just a few treacherous blocks. It was dark and we almost had a casualty ;) The atmosphere was awesome! We sat outside in a tent with the curtains drawn back. Inside, there is an art studio and gallery, but we didn’t have a chance to check it out. Maybe next time. The setting was so pretty with their tiny little lights, but it was cold.

B’s birthday cake was ok. The frosting reminded me of Cool Whip. Blah! I didn’t even finish my slice. More sugar, please!

Blended Green Tea Latte ($4.95) - What was I thinking?!?! Apparently, I was on crack! Like I mentioned, it was cold and I ordered an ice cold drink! In my defense though, I don’t usually order lattes, so for whatever reason… I thought blended = in a blender, but I didn’t think they meant blending ice… it was still pretty tasty. (Starbucks has a similar version.)

They brought out some pretty funky treats, which we didn’t order, but were willing to try. Aimee thought that there was a pate in-between the cheese and cracker, but sadly, it was peanut butter! It was one of the gnarliest things I’ve ever tasted! Each little “treat” was different… topped with pineapple, mango, bananas, strawberries, olives, meat, and other assorted oddities!

We had fun though!!! The staff was very nice. (I think they’re Korean. They also have another location in Venice Beach.) They gave B a bday card and they didn’t even mind us talking about Halloween parties with Gary Coleman, pierced male body parts, and bitch slaps… you just had to be there!!!

On my way home from LA, I was getting super tired, so I decided to stop by the Irvine Spectrum Center hoping to find a Starbucks, but they had a Tea Station instead, so I decided to try something different…

Lavender Milk Tea ($4.15) - First of all, it is a very HOT drink. I had to wait an hour before I could drink it. (Yup, I was already home by then…) But, it was so good! I was kind of surprised, too. I’ve never tried milk tea before and when I took off the lid to take a look, it didn’t look so good. Kind of muddy. It had an almost cinnamon-y taste to it. A nice treat for cold days! Delicious!

Tea Station Wall Tea Station

Ok I admit it… I’m a tea addict. I’m starting to become a regular at Tea Station. When you walk in the door you get a nice greeting from their automatic censor that says “ni hao”. The drinks are a little pricier than most tea shops, but I really enjoy this place. I don’t mind paying one or two dollars extra because the service is good and the atmosphere is nice and quiet.

Tea Station Tables lychee-ice-jelly.JPG

My friend got the lychee ice jelly. This time they made the drink a lot better. The lychee juice wasn’t too overpowering and it had just the right amount of sweetness. The sweetness was subtle enough, that you could finish the whole drink. The added jelly and boba made it enjoyable to drink as well.

Hot Almond Milk Tea Tea Cup

I felt like having a hot drink, so I ordered the hot almond milk tea. The drink came in a large urn, with a small spoon to ladle the drink into the tea cups. I was a bit saddened because they didn’t give me a tea pot this time. I had gotten a tea pot last time I ordered a hot milk tea drink. It was pretty relaxing while I was ladling the tea into the individual tea cups. The blend of flavors in the drink was well mixed. There was a hint of almond in the drink and the sweetness was just right. To my surprise the drink had some body to it and It coated my tastebuds just perfectly.

Stay tuned for when I visit the Clairemont Mesa Tea Station!
