Alligator Andouille Cheesecake at Louisiana Purchase in San Diego

Lousiana Purchase brings the bold tastes of the Big Easy to North Park of San Diego. The food is loud and proud, created by experienced Louisiana transplant chef Quinnton Austin. We were excited to be able to check out this new spot recently through a media invitation.

Meat plate at Texas de Brazil churrascaria in The Shoppes at Carlsbad

Texas de Brazil recently opened at The Shoppes at Carlsbad and provides an upscale Brazilian eatery featuring all-you-can-eat grilled meat carved tableside & a salad bar. The only options prior were Fogo de Chao and Rei de Gado, both located in downtown San Diego. This new restaurant gives those further north an excellent option without the drive, plus the parking is easier at the mall and FREE!

Medina Kitchen opened last month and we were invited to the soft opening. The quick casual restaurant is an intimate space with several tables inside and front patio seating. Orders are first placed at the counter, then brought out to your table. After choosing three items to sample, the food arrived within minutes! Good thing too because we were starved!

apps and cocktails at Farmer's Table restaurant in Little Italy

Farmer's Table, a farm to fork focused restaurant, opened their third and largest location in Little Italy. We've enjoyed brunch at their Bay Park location and decided to switch it up with an evening meal here. The restaurant is in the heart of Little Italy on India Street and is neighbors with the newer Little Italy Food Hall.

Jessica McGehee posing with her cookie bar

Today I had the pleasure of attending the My Cookie Story Contest awards ceremony at Barnes & Noble Otay Ranch. Local author and super mom, Jessica McGeHee, won the national contest with her "Taste of Home" cookie bar which represents the places that her family has lived over the years as part of being a military family.

Bison Burger at Eureka! restaurant near San Diego State University (SDSU)

Eureka! is an All-American scratch kitchen and craft bar that opened up a location by San Diego State University around a year and a half ago. It's been a while since Dennis visited his alma mater so we took this opportunity to fill our bellies (as media) and peek around campus.

Eureka! restaurant near San Diego State University (SDSU)

The restaurant is on the edge of campus sharing a building with Trader Joe's and a few other businesses. The trolley and bus stops are less than a minute away and drivers can park in the paid parking garage. The restaurant will validate for 1 hour, then diners are on their own for the remaining $1 per quarter hour. Our visit took around 1.5 hours and I wish they were able to validate for slightly longer.

pancake at Lazy Hippo in downtown San Diego

Lazy Hippo is a newer brunch spot in the heart of gaslamp San Diego. They serve up signature pancakes, waffles, french toast and other breakfast favorites. The business filled up quickly during our brunch visit so the locals seem to dig it as well.

Bare Lil Lamb at Queenstown Bistro in San Diego

There's several New Zealand inspired restaurants throughout San Diego with the newest one being Queenstown Bistro at Westfield UTC Mall. This location is near the food court right next to the music stage plaza. It's a convenient stop for eats before, during or after your shopping. Our media visit was right after Thanksgiving but luckily the holiday frenzy hadn't grown much, at least yet!
