Eggbert's
Submitted by cathytran on Sat, 08/07/2010 - 2:46pm.In the Coconut Marketplace, you'll find one location that is shared by Eggbert's (breakfast and lunch) and Hula Girl Bar & Grill (dinner). We stopped by for breakfast. My friend thought his Mushroom Omelet with Cheese and Hash Browns was good. I enjoyed a full stack of Banana Pancakes with Coconut Syrup (about $8). I had seen coconut syrup in several shops and was looking forward to trying it out. I was not disappointed. It definitely tastes different than maple syrup (which is also available). The coconut syrup doesn't seem as sugary.
Xooro
Submitted by cathytran on Fri, 06/25/2010 - 3:28pm.Xooro... premium Spanish fritters? Sorry, but I disagree. This little shop recently opened at the Westfield Shopping Center in Mission Valley. While I was looking at their "products" on their website, I wanted to try one of their treats. Each looked delicious. When we got to their store, we discovered that some of the treats were already made. I was expecting them to make it when I placed my order. To me, it should have been warm, but instead, I got a cold Xooro. The Triple Chocolate ($4.40) consisted of a chocolate filled regular fritter dipped in chocolate with ch
Senor Mango's
Submitted by cathytran on Tue, 06/15/2010 - 9:20am.One of my favorite Taste of Adams Avenue stops was Senor Mango's. (They're actually located on 30th Street.) We tried the Pineapple Juice and Watermelon Juice. Both were cold and refreshing. Absolutely delicious!
They also offer smoothies, fruit salads, yogurt, cottage cheese, acai, and even tortas. There is a second location in Escondido. The weather is heating up, so stop by for a cooling treat!
Viva Pops
Submitted by cathytran on Mon, 06/14/2010 - 11:09am.While standing in line for Lestat's last month, I noticed Viva Pops across the street and wondered if they were any good. So I was quite excited to find out that they were part of Taste of Adams Avenue. Lavender Lemonade sounded different and it certainly was... a little funky. Strawberry Basil was absolutely delicious! Even though I didn't really notice the basil, this treat was full of strawberries and is a must try! Their pops are $2.50 each (I think we received smaller sized pops to try), are organic, and come in a variety of unique flavors. Check out their w
Cool Cravings
Submitted by cathytran on Sun, 05/16/2010 - 6:52pm.Found another self-serve frozen yogurt shop in PQ! Cool Cravings charges 39 cents per ounce (just like L'Amour De Yogurt), but you can find coupons for buy one get one free in the local savings magazines that you get in the mail. The two flavors that I like best are Pineapple and Red Velvet.
But, what's great about this place is they also have ice cream and smoothies! I noticed they have a pink "mint chip" and asked about it. Apparently, it's a peppermint chip ice cream. Something I'll have to try next time.
The staff was very nice. I'll definitely be back =)
Babbo Grande
Submitted by cathytran on Thu, 04/01/2010 - 12:19pm.I've been really busy, so this is a quickie... I read about Babbo Grande on the San Diego Reader's website and recently checked them out. Their Fruit & Cheese Plate ($7) looked good on the menu, but I should have asked what kinds of cheeses they had. Their "specialty" cheeses were disappointing. (Afterwards, we walked several blocks to Taste Artisan Cheese & Gourmet Shop to pick up some treats for later.)
Haute Pink Cakes
Submitted by cathytran on Tue, 02/16/2010 - 7:56pm.Looking for cute cakes or cupcakes? Try the local family-owned Haute Pink Cakes in Rancho Penasquitos. They have lots of flavors, including their signature PINK velvet, in three sizes: mini ($1.50), regular ($3), and jumbo ($4.50). If these prices seem a little steep, keep a look out for coupons in local publications. Also, if you become a fan on Facebook, you'll get updates about daily specials.
Crepe World
Submitted by cathytran on Sun, 01/17/2010 - 7:11pm.Crepe World has been open since August of 2009 and I was finally able to try them out this past week. It was, well... a little disappointing. The service was very slow. It was Saturday afternoon and there was only one worker bee responsible for taking orders, cashiering, AND making the food. There were about a dozen people who arrived after us and several of them left due to the long wait time.
L'Amour De Yogurt
Submitted by cathytran on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 11:10am.I'm venturing into a different neighborhood - Rancho Penasquitos! So far, I've only found one self-serve frozen yogurt eatery. L'Amour De Yogurt is near the 56 freeway and Rancho Penasquitos Blvd. Like the many other places, they have several flavors (16 - I think) and an abundance of toppings (both dry and fresh fruits). My favorite flavors are Mango Sorbet and Cookies & Cream.
