Taste of Hillcrest 2012

Our first visit to Taste of Hillcrest! We got there about 15 minutes before the start of the event but took a little more time than expected to find parking.

NOTE: carpool with your friends and come earlier for best parking!

Mad Maui Food Truck

Mad Maui food truck is often in the North County area so we jumped on the chance to try them out when they were at Green Flash Brewery last night.

Surati Farsan Mart

After I discovered this restaurant at one of our book club meetings, I've been raving about it! It's cheap, delicious and vegetarian!

I finally had a chance to return today and brought Dennis with me. After walking in, I got a bit confused because it was much larger with nicer dining tables/chairs than what I had remembered. It'd only been a month or two since my first visit and now this? One of the servers informed me that they had remodeled. Well done Surati because it looked great!

We ordered three of their popular items.

Anny's Fine Burger (Kearny Mesa)

The lunch crew decided to try out a new place called Anny's Fine Burger which replaced a thai restaurant they had previously dined. From the staff I found out it had been open for 3 weeks. From the internet I found an original location in santee and NO information about the new kearny mesa location on their website. Time to update folks!

Back to the important part though... the food!

Burlap

Burlap is Chef Brian Malarkey's second restaurant in the San Diego area, with his first being Searsucker located in downtown.

Devilicious Food Truck

As we were driving through Mira Mesa last Monday, we noticed the familiar shape of food trucks by the Epicenter, a local youth center.  We immediately u-turned, found ourselves a parking spot nearby and headed toward the enticing scents.

Taste of North Park 2011 Part 2/2

Taste of North Park 2011 continued...

Veg N' Out

This slider was different than the vegetarian patties you find at the grocery store, and the onions were cooked a slight bit raw.  Not really a favorite of mine.

Taste of North Park 2011 Part 1/2

I've heard so many good things about the food in North Park so when our schedule suddenly cleared up that day, we ventured to test out this theory.  Taste of North Park was held on Saturday Oct. 8 from 11am-4pm. Between the generous five hours and the proximity of most restaurants, we were able to sample all 46 locations!

The Gourmet Experience 2011

At the Gourmet Experience, visitors have their choice of live cooking demos, food competitions, and gourmet foods and products!  Besides the vendors, there were three different stages that showcased various chefs and their foods: the Gourmet in Action state, the Outdoor Grilling Stage, and the Kids Cook Activity Stage.  We attended on Sunday Oct. 9th 2011.

The Gourmet Experience 2011 - Fish Taco TKO Competition

What is The Gourmet Experience? According to their website:

"The Gourmet Experience is a two-day cooking and home entertainment showcase featuring the best in culinary solutions, appliances, culinary travel, home products and specialty foods for the gourmet lifestyle. "

We had passes for Sunday Oct 9th. After looking at the schedule, our eyes were drawn toward one big thing: the Fish Taco TKO Competition!
