Congrats on the 1 year anniversary of CAKED, a blossoming business that sells delicious homemade cookies and brownies! We first discovered this tasty treat while visiting the Miralani Makers' District, which is off Camino Ruiz in between Mira Mesa and Miramar. Besides this brick and mortar location, CAKED owner Kathy Phan also sells to customers at various public and private events.
CAKED occassionally offers bulk discounts for their cookies which is usually around the holidays. I actuallly picked up a box of 10 cookies during the Mother's Day sale last month. Unfortunately I didn't get to taste most of them because they were bought as gifts for others. The ones I did try were the Lemon Poppy Seed and Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Cookie were delicious and gave me second thoughts on sharing these!
The cookies shown in the photo from left to right are: Red Velvet, Lemon Poppy Seed, Mint Chocolate Chip, Slutty Brownie (part cookie which I will explain later), Ube Mochi, Vegan + Gluten-free Chocolate Chip, Chocolate-chipped Strawberry, Caramel Choconut, Peanut Nutter, Taro, Toffee Hazelnut Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate Oatmeal. Depending on when you go, some of these flavors may not be available as the selection rotates every once in a while.
Ingredients are identified on the wrapper so there are no surprises if you are gifting these (or keeping them to yourself). I love a bit of toffee in my cookies plus the hazelnut is a nice addition!
One of Lynn's favorites is the Cookies + Cream Double Chip Cookie, which contains oreo bits, semisweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chips!
Taro is one of their other popular cookies... Mmm makes me want to have more cookies... and with so many options, there's something for everyone!
Krispy Peanut Butter Marshmallow Brownie
Krispy Peanut Butter Marshmallow Brownie reminds Lynn of the Whatchamacallit candy bar but with marshmallow. The structure of this thing is actually quite delicate. There is a thick layer of oddily satisfying and jiggling marshmallow which binds the top rice crispy layer and bottom brownie layers together. I'm not too much of a fan of marshmallow but I really do like how it contrasts the crispy texture of the top layer.
Rocky Road Brownie
The Rocky Road Brownie has ingredients that are similar to the ice cream flavor of the same name. It contains chocolate chips, marshmallows, and almonds. Like the previous brownie, there is a marshmallow layer which holds things together. But this one is even more delicate to handle as the stacked toppings can easily fall out.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownie
The top layer of the Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownie tastes just like a peanut butter cup! It's a satisfyingly rich treat.
The Slutty Brownie
For the grand finale we have our personal favorite, the Slutty Brownie. This decadent piece is comprised of layered brownie, oreo cookies, and a chocolate chip cookie. It's a triple threat that tastes well balanced and not too sweet. Unlike the previous brownies which had the brownie as the bottom base, this one has the brownie as the top layer. This gives it a nice baked crust texture. Lynn and I order this item almost everytime.
I don't often eat brownies simply because of the calories. So when I do decide to buy some they better be good. Damn good. These CAKED brownies are the real deal. Just be prepared to run a 5k the following day to make up for the calories!
You can find CAKED in the Miralani Makers' District (MMD) o If you've never been to Miralani Makers' before it's a business complex of fifteen local craft beverage and eateries that was established a few years ago. It's definitely a great place to go that's local to Mira Mesa. I'm looking forward to come hang out with friends here again when socializing can safely resume.
