San Diego CityBeat is promoting a local Burger Week that started Friday May 4 and ends Saturday May 12 for 2018. The participating restaurants are offering a select burger for $6 (some even include fries) while a couple more bucks can land you fries and/or drinks. There's even a $300 giftcard pacakge for the person who eats the most burgers and hashtags #citybeatburgerweek on Instagram! Last year I created a San Diego Burger Week spreadsheet with burgers deals vs retail value but no recap. This year is the opposite, no spreadsheets but obviously, a recap! Here's everything that I ate this year:

Charred Octopus at Waterbar in Pacific Beach of San Diego

Waterbar recently opened and took over the Joe’s Crab Shack alongside a prime beachside location of Pacific Beach. It's a fantastic makeover of the space with two huge bars for the drinkers and a fabulous chef in the kitchen for good eats. For parking, we found out they have their own lot behind the building which is valet on the busier nights. Street parking is the alternative which we did on our visit. The brisk chilly walk to the restaurant amplified our hunger.

Earlier this year, we met some out-of-town friends at Tamarindo Latin Kitchen & Bar. I remember loving the potato rolled tacos and decided to revisit this North Park spot. They had just kicked off brunch on the weekend we visited. So far I think I'm in love. The flavors were on point and I loved the fusion aspect.

The restaurant is a spacious spot with pleasing tones of blue and neutrals.

I'm so appreciative to have a great food community here in San Diego. As soon as I asked where to go celebrate, I received several suggestions. Cueva Bar was on my to-do list but with renewed recommendations from two friends, I knew this was the time to finally stop in for a bite!

Cueva Bar is almost hidden away on a quiet street in University Heights. The entrance is under the stairway but you can already spot the artsy appeal of this tapas bar from the outside.

The Taco Stand has expanded into the neighborhood of North Park and taken over the spot where Tacos Perla used to be. I dropped by for a media lunch on a Friday and found street parking within a few blocks. There's nothing wrong with a little sunshine and cooling breeze to and from your meal! Since I hadn't seen her in a while, SanDiegoFoodGirl joined me as my plus one.

The restaurant space is mom and pop sized with a casual atmosphere. The kitchen and order counter are on the left while a few tables line up against the right side wall. There's also an outdoor patio for additional seating.

I'm still struggling with work/life balance but I managed to get a few good eats this month. We also purchased a lightbox so that we could take photos in the evenings without the yellow glow of the kitchen lights. I think it is working out well so far! I'm still terrible about eating breakfast daily but one weekend morning, I decided to finally make myself a healthy breakfast. And take pictures.

We were delighted to attend the Pechanga Wine Festival on Saturday March 10th, 2018. The 10th annual Wine Festival kicked off at noon for VIP admission and opened to the rest (including us) at 1pm. VIP tickets sold for $90, general admission for $65, and designated driver for $40, plus additional discounts for club card holders.

We reused our handy dandy wine plate from the night before, which freed up our hands for grabbing additional food samples and reach for the next wine pour. We leisurely wandered around the huge ballroom looking for the next sample.
