Ramen Yamadaya (Clairemont)

UPDATE: read about our revisit (Jan 2014) here

We tried out this restaurant a few weeks ago when we were in a ramen noodle mood...

For ramen, you can select one of the three basic bowls:

tonkotsu ramen (pork broth), tonkotsu shoyu (pork broth with soy sauce), and tonkotsu kotteri (pork broth, oilier)

If you pick any of the other ramen dishes, you get to pick one of the three broths above as your base flavoring, prior to all the extra ingredients you get from your menu selection.

Yamadaya Ramen (Kotteri style) 9.95

The extra topping of this soup was kakuni pork belly and an extra egg half which was all delicious. Unfortunate the Kotteri style was only good on the first bite and after a while, the extra oil flavoring was just too heavy for me.

Tonkotsu Shoyu - 7.95

Dennis said that in his experience, tonkotsu is usually a different soup base than shoyu, so this place surprised him by combing the two together! For me, I don't usually remember which ramen soup i ordered (unless I post) so I ordered the wrong soup (I said SHIO) and he had to correct my order to the waiter! OOPS! All I know is that this was one of the best ramen soup I had in a while (other than Izakaya Masa)! The broth had a really good flavor for me and the egg was all kinds of squishy yolk fun!

Overall, I'd be interested in coming back and trying some of the other items on the menu like the bentos. We also noticed that they had a second bigger room for larger parties to dine and drink! Perhaps next time we'll bring a few friends with us :)
