Lil' Piggy's Bar-B-Q

A coworker of Dennis's had recommended this BBQ place in Coronado so we were off to try it for ourselves. The restaurant itself is in the tourist-y area of Coronado, surrounded by little shops and other eateries but within sight of a beautiful skyline view of San Diego. There was only a 10 minute wait to be seated.

We wanted to sample multiple meats so we ordered the Pig Out Platter, which comes with three meats, two sides and white bread.

After about 10-15 minutes, the food came out more or less at room temperature, or just wasn't as hot as we expected it to be.

Main course:

On the bottom of the plate were the pork ribs. Dennis tried to cut a rib or two for me but it just fell off the bone as soon as he tried transferring it! The ribs were super tender and decently flavored with the restaurant's signature bbq sauce. I'd say that the sauce is more on the sweet side, almost like jam sweetness. On the right was the pulled pork, which was a medium juicy but easy to pull apart. We keep comparing all pulled pork from restaurants to our home-smoked version and nothing has impressed us enough so far. The brisket on the left was quite a generous portion and had a good balance of meat and fat for a lean cut. Dennis thought it was the the best in San Diego that we've tried (so far) but it could have used a little more salt. Texas is where the BEST BBQ has been for us (although we don't recommend Abby's Texas BBQ, which is located in san diego).

Sides:

For one of the sides, we had mac and cheese, which was good but nothing special again. For the other, we had the corn fritters. These remind me of hush puppies but are much better because they have CORN in them! I love corn haha. One thing on the weird side is that there's all this meat on the platter but you only get two half slices of regular bread. That's TINY! At least it was served with a huge chunk of honey butter that was easy to spread and was unique and sweet.

Overall, food was decent and we had leftover brisket to take home. We grabbed a quick drink nearby to finish out our night...
